One of the defining aspects of Afghan operations for coalition forces is the pressure on airlift capacity. While ground convoys can deliver supplies and transport personnel successfully, they can be hampered and slowed down by the threat of roadside bombs and ambushes. Resupply to forward bases, troop movements and, in particular, medical evacuations can often only be feasibly undertaken by support helicopters. Therefore, the need to provide effective training for this task through the use of live assets and simulation is paramount.
