The Israel Defence Force (IDF) has selected Elbit Systems' Skylark I-LE (long endurance) mini-unmanned aerial vehicle (mini-UAV) to equip all of its ground forces battalions, as part of the Sky Rider programme. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) decision ended two years of a highly contested tender, involving all of Israel's major defence companies. The decision has yet to be made public, however as two companies - Aeronautics Defense Systems and Rotem Industries -are planning a court appeal. "The MoD's decision is highly unreasonable," Aeronautics CEO Avi Leumi told Jane's. "We are considering our legal options against it." The two companies claim that the costs presented by Elbit were "irrationally low" and that the MoD should have known that Elbit would be unable to meet its proposed price.
