摘要

NATO is optimistic that defence ties with Russia will be renewed in the coming months, despite Moscow's decision to withdraw from a high-level military meeting scheduled for 7 May.rnRussia's move was in reaction to NATO's planned exercises in Georgia, according to Moscow's NATO envoy Dmitry Rogozin, speaking on 20 April. He had previously described the 'Co-operative Longbow 09'/'Co-operative Lancer 09' exercises as "absurdity and insanity", insisting that it "is provocative to rattle the sabre near our borders until Russia-NATO military contacts are restored and untilrntrust is restored between our sides".
