The whole-of-ship preliminary design review phase of the programme to build two 27.800-tonne landing helicopter dock (LHD) ships for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has been completed by BAE Systems Australia and the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO).rnThe completion of this phase, taking in major subsystems including communications, navigation and combat support and platform systems dears the way for detailed design reviews ff the LHD programme to get underway in mid-November, a BAE Systems spokesman told Jane'son 21 July.
