An attack on Chad's capital, Ndjamena, was defeated after heavy fighting in the city on 2 and 3 February. Two rebel columns, with an overall strength estimated at around 2,000, brushed aside government forces positioned to block their advance and entered the city on 2 February. The rebels were then engaged by government forces and finally driven out of the city on 3 February after what was reported to be heavy fighting.
