The Advanced European Jet Pilot Training (AEJPT) programme could reach initial operating capability (IOC) by 2016 despite the absence of a current memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the project, according to an Austrian Ministry of Defence (MoD) official involved in the programme. Speaking on 27 February at the Defence IQ Military Flight Training 2008 conference in London, the deputy head of the Austrian Air Office, Colonel Wolfgang Luttenberger, explained that 2016 "could be a target" for the programme, although a number of considerable obstacles will have to be overcome first.
