The promotion of common aircraft types to countries around the world is a key way in which the US Air Force (USAF) has been seeking to build long-lasting relationships with allied air forces. According to Deputy Undersecretary of the Air Force for International Affairs Bruce Lemkin, the C-27, C-130 and C-17 aircraft in particular will offer the USAF a wealth of opportunities to boost international ties as overseas armed forces seek to increase their transport capabilities. Speaking at the Berlin Air Show 2008 on 28 May, Lemkin, who is also head of the USAF's international Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) programme based on the C-27J, told Jane's that lift and mobility are extremely important.
