Following initial trials, the BAE Systems Manned Turret Integration Programme 2 (MTIP 2) turret was shown at Eurosatory installed in a Warrior infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). Development of MTIP 2 was funded by BAE Systems to meet the British Army's Warrior Fight-ability Lethality Improvement Programme (WFLIP), expected to cover the upgrade of up to 449 currently deployed Warrior IFVs. Jane's sources indicate that this figure could be reduced depending on the number of Warrior IFVs to be retained. Warrior is currently fitted with a two-person turret armed with an unstabilised 30 mm Rarden cannon and 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun, aimed through Thales Battle Group Thermal Imaging commanders' and gunners' sights. MTIP 2 is a direct drop-in 'plug and play' replacement turret that will enable Warrior to engage stationary and moving targets at longer ranges under almost all weather conditions. It is a brand new design with a baseline structure of welded steel, to which an applique armour package has been added. This provides the same level of protection as the chassis.
