The Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) of the US Navy (USN) has completed naval acceptance trials for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 1, PCU Freedom, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) announced on 27 August. INSURV, which conducted the acceptance trials on 17-21 August, called LCS 1 a "capable, well-built and inspection-ready" ship and recommended that Freedom should be delivered following the correction or waiver of any cited material deficiencies. Few deficiencies were found relative to other comparable first-of-class warships, the NAVSEA reported. During the trials the full demonstration of aviation and combat systems was prevented by the operational restrictions in place on Lake Michigan.
