Finmeccanica has received an order for four Alenia Aeronautica C-27J light tactical transport aircraft in a deal worth EUR130 million (USD187 million) for the platforms and support systems. While the Italian company declined to comment on the order, Jane's sources said the country was "Mediterranean and non-NATO", suggesting that the buyer could well be Morocco, Algeria or Libya. The latter two are most likely. Libyan ties with Italy have been strengthened during the past two years, culminating in a deal agreed at the end of August under which Italy will compensate Libya for colonial-era disputes to the tune of USD5 billion during the next 25 years, and Finmecannica has signed industrial deals with both countries.
