Proposed cuts to Slovenia's defence budget will lead to delays in its armed forces modernisation programme, the Slovenian Ministry of Defence (MORS) told Jane's on 5 September. According to the information provided by the MORS, the Slovenian parliament revised the 2008 defence budget in May 2008, cutting it by EUR36 million (USD51 million) to EUR560 million. The information provided by the MORS also indicates that the budget for 2009 has been cut by EUR53 million from the originally planned level. A MORS spokesperson told Jane'sthat the budget cut would lead to "the delay of planned purchases in the areas of CBRN [chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear] capabilities, air defence, tactical airlift and light transportation vehicles".
