The UK Royal Naval helicopter carrier HMS Ocean steamed out of Plymouth on 24 September to begin sea trials following a year-long GPB3S million (USD64.8 million) docking period. Undertaken by through-life support contractor Bab-cock Marine, the work package included upgrades to the amphibious ship's defensive weapon suite, aviation support and communications facilities, accommodation and waste disposal systems. The original package, including more than 40 alterations and additions, increased in size over the maintenance period. Savings of some GBP2.5 million were achieved through planning for optimum cost-efficiency, according to Babcock Marine.
