The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has made no decision on possible base closures with regards to the ongoing training needs analysis it is conducting as part of the Military Flying Training System (MRS). At a briefing in London on 26 November, Ken Cornfield, Deputy Managing Director of MFTS provider company Ascent Right Training, said the study would report its findings in the first quarterof 2009 and that, as yet, "no bases have been recommended for closure". He went on to say that it is critical that this report's findings are made known during this period as a number of key MFTS acquisition activities wilt begin to come into play at about the same time and a key element of these will be telling potential bidders where these activities will need to be delivered. Ascent is a 50-50 Joint venture between Lockheed Martin and VT Group.
