Generals seeking a challenging new field job should pay attention to an interesting vacancy at the UN. In February 2007, Major General Patrick Cammaert of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (RNLMC) ended his two-year stint as commander of 15,000 UN soldiers deployed in the volatile eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), formerly known as Zaire. But to this day, the UN has failed to find a suitable successor to the Dutch general at Division East of MONUC, the UN mission in the DRC.
