The Canadian government may be ready to relaunch a programme to acquire strategic airlift after being severely criticised for the late dispatch of its Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the 26 December tsunami. DART was set up in 1996 to be in place and operational within seven days of a disaster, yet the Canadian Forces (CF) were unable to deploy the first of the team's equipment until 11 days after the tsunami first hit.
