Net-enabled operations are becoming pervasive in the military and everyday life. Yet the world views net-enabled capabilities through many different prisms, while industry tackles the challenges in highly varied ways. Raytheon Company's approach in this increasingly complex landscape is distinct and state-of-the-art. Raytheon was actively developing and fielding systems that embodied "networked" concepts even before the term came into use. Its HAWK and PATRIOT Systems for the US Army from the 60's and 70's, and more recently its Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) for the US Navy, begun in the 1990s, are generally accepted as the original network-enabled applications in global defence. Since then, Raytheon has pioneered and implemented dozens of programmes, helping its customers make the transition into the Information Age.
