MBDA Missile Systems is close to agreeing a co-operative venture with Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control that would see the US-designed AGM-114 Hell-fire air-launched anti-armour missile assembled in Europe by MBDA. Driving the EuroHellfire initiative is MBDA's concern that it will lose out in the race to provide a modern battlefield missile for the Eurocopter Tiger combat helicopter. All eyes are now on Spain where an evaluation that pits MBDA against Israel's Rafael and its Spike missile is now under way.
