摘要

Following almost two years of negotiations, Germany and Turkey signed an agreement on 8 November in Berlin under which Ankara will acquire 298 surplus Krauss Maf-fei Wegman (KMW) Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks (MBTs) at a cost of around EUR365 million (USD430 million). The German Ministry of Defence confirmed the deal later the same day. The negotiations, which had stalled in the past because of technology transfer issues, were saved with an agreement by German industry to transfer maintenance technology relating to ammunition, electronics, fire-control systems and training, Turkish military officials in Ankara told JDW.
