Gurbachan Jagat, the Director General of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), is responsible not only for patrolling about 8,860km of the country's often volatile borders, but increasingly for combating armed insurgencies in the northern disputed state of Kashmir, and in the north-east of the country.
