Gene Colabatistto, who has been group president of CAE's Defence and Security business since June 2012, describes the company as a training systems integrator (TSI) providing optimised training solutions to customers. According to CAE's Annual Report, the defence and security segment of the business accounted for 38.3% of consolidated revenue for fiscal year 2018.CAE offers simulation products from desktop systems to immersive high-fidelity, full-mission simulators and Colabatistto pointed to addressing the market's desire for more portable solutions as an opportunity. "When we look [at] a training problem to solve, we look at all the tools at our disposal, including the airplane and various high-, medium-, and low-fidelity flight training devices," he said, noting that there are also portable systems that include augmented- and virtual-reality technology. "The driver behind the selection of these technologies is how to best accomplish the training task," Colabatistto explained, emphasising that there is a desire among CAE's customers to be better, faster, cheaper, and more portable, with the ability to move training to the point of need.
