The Bundeswehr is increasingly overburdened by foreign deployments and NATO commitments and is still waiting for a reversal in the downward trend in personnel and equipment, according to a German parliamentary report published on 28 January. Germany's parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces, Hans-Peter Bartels, said in the report that the Bundeswehr had 17,500 troops on deployment at the end of 2019, plus another 7,200 committed to the NATO Response Force.
