Australian shipbuilder Austal has expanded its facilities in the Philippines, more than trebling the capacity of its Cebu-based shipyard, the company has confirmed to Jane's. An Austal spokesperson said that the company's investment in the Philippines - worth AUD30 million (USD21 million) - has been focused primarily on "supporting additional capacity for the company's commercial shipbuilding facilities". The investment comes at a time when the company is also bidding to supply six offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) to the Philippine Navy (PN).
