The US military plans to build a boat-launching ramp in northern Senegal, according to a notice released on the US government's System of Award Management website on 11 August. The notice stated that the US Army Corps of Engineers is looking for a contractor that can build the ramp in Saint Louis, close to the Mauritanian border, for USD250,000-500,000. The notice used the specification sheet for the SAFE Boats 38 Full Cabin, which is 12 m long, to illustrate the type of boat that the ramp will be required to handle. The Senegalese Navy does not operate the 38 Full Cabin, but has similarly sized Metal Shark 38 Defiant boats that were donated by the United States. The US has funded a maintenance facility for the 38 Defi-ants at the Saint Louis Naval Base.
