BAE Systems plans to build a USD150 million campus in Austin, Texas, to accommodate its growing defence business there, the UK-based company announced on 11 August. The 390,000 sq ft site will host new and existing programmes, including BAE's current development and manufacturing work on countermeasure systems. With room for more than 1,400 employees, it will have engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, and office space. The campus will be located in Parmer Austin Business Park, placing it near the headquarters of the US Army Futures Command: the military service formed two years ago to spur the service's modernisation. The campus will also be near the Austin Capital Factory, which is a hub for tech startups.
