South Korea's Defense Project Promotion Committee approved plans on 29 October to upgrade both the identification friend-or-foe (IFF) and Link 16 tactical datalink systems on the Republic of Korea Air Force's (RoKAF's) fleet of Boeing E-737 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. In a statement issued that same day the country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said that KRW490 billion (USD432 million) has been earmarked for the upgrade project, which is set to be completed by 2025 with assistance from Boeing.
