Vietnam is a promising defence market for exporters despite the country's strength-ening ties with long-time rival China. Several factors point to potential. The Viet-namese People's Army (VPA) must replace its fleets of increasingly obsolete materiel and the country's defence budget is forecast by Janes to accelerate strongly despite the immediate Covid-19 pandemic-related headwind. Vietnam remains reliant on imports for nearly all its military requirements and its primary motivator to modernise its military -the need to protect regional territory and assets - is certain to remain a priority.
