Just Two Days after being elected as Somalia's new head of state, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud survived an assassination attempt on 12 September, when suicide bombers belonging to the militant Islamist group the Shabab attacked a Mogadishu hotel where he was staying. At least three soldiers were reported killed during the twin blasts, which occurred when an explosive-laden vehicle was driven to the gate of the Jazeera hotel, near the Aden Duale International airport on the outskirts of the capital.
