Recent Digital Globe imagery acquired by Jane's shows the growth of China's Taiyuan Space Launch Centre (TSLC) since 2006. The centre's development appears to be a key factor in China's long-range ballistic missile force modernisation.rnTSLC supports the launch of Polar Earth Orbit surveillance and weather satellites. Most recently, on 22 April 2009, the YaoGan-6 surveillance satellite, of a family that includes optical and radar satellites, was launched from Taiyuan.rnFrom 1999 to 2004. Taiyuan was also the location for test flights of the KT-1, a four-stage mobile space-launch vehicle. The KT-1 forms the basis for the SC-19 anti-satellite missile, which was used for China's first successful anti-satellite test in January 2007, and a new anti-ship ballistic missile. It is not known whether TSLC has supported tests for the SC-19 or anti-ship missile.
