Belarus-based GVTUP Belspetsvneshtechnika has developed an upgraded version of the 9K35M/ M2 Strela-10M2/3(SA-13 'Gopher') mobile short-range air defence system. The scheme is intended to improve the system's day and night capability and improve its combat performance. A new Strizh-M four-channel dayight optronic suite incorporating a laser rangefinder is mounted between two pairs of trainable missile canisters - the location formerly used by the circular parabolic antenna of the vehicle's 9S86 ('Snap Shot') ranging radar. This new sensor installation is coupled with two flat-panel displays in the operator's position. By eliminating the vehicle's ranging radar, the upgrade makes the system near-passive in operation, so an engagement would not trigger the target's radar warning receiver.
