Elbit Systems has developed a new FieldArtilleryTactical Trainer (ATT), which it is shortly to deliver to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) and announced it to coincide with the Interservice/Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2014 in Orlando. The ATT provides a mobile system for training forward observation officers (FOO) and artillery command posts, using existing artillery command-and-control (C2) systems. Ofer Segal, director of land training and simulation for Elbit, described it as "an appended simulation system for the artillery to match the one we already supply for tanks". The core of the system is contained in a vehicle and shelter, which provides all the necessary facilities for a FOO. The simulation engine uses Elbit's OneSim Computer Generated Forces (CGF) and virtual environment to enable the FOO to conduct fire missions, using existing tactical communications to link to fire direction centres, command posts, and weapon systems. The IDF will use its existing Combat Next Generation (NG) artillery C2 system, also from Elbit, for fire control.
