摘要

The current head of communications for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, US Army Brigadier General Joseph A Brendler (Chief HQISAF CJ6), first came to Afghanistan a decade ago as part of 18 Airborne Corps, which was responsible for establishing what was then known as Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) 180. "Many things have changed since that time", he told IHS Jane's in an interview in Kabul. "The scope of the infrastructure requirement, for example, is multiple orders of magnitude more extensive today than it was then. And the CIS [communication information systems] situation reflects the same - the extent of the communications we have here today is orders of magnitude greater and performs orders of magnitude better than it did at that time," he said, referring to a period when the networks were necessarily founded upon initial-deployment (military) equipment.
