Supersonic aerial transport may be positioned for a technological breakthrough and the US Air Force (USAF) wants to help make it a reality. Market research performed by the USAF indicates that at least two supersonic transport aircraft developers are targeting flight tests by 2026 with aircraft that can carry 50-75 passengers. Supersonic flight is faster than Mach 1 (1,236 km/h at sea level) but slower than Mach 5.
