The US Navy (USN) is planning the acquisition of a new supersonic aerial target to replace its dwindling stock of air-launched AQM-37 targets. Releasing a request for information (RFI) on 1 August, the Naval Air Systems Command's (NAVAIR's) Aerial Target and Decoy Systems Program Office (PMA-208) said it was conducting market research "to identify qualified, experienced, and interested potential sources for a supersonic aerial target system capable of high-altitude cruise, lower-altitude cruise, tactical ballistic and lofted missile profiles... for replacement of the air launched AQM-37 as well as other future supersonic target capabilities".
