In December 2015, the US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) released its latest report on the Russian Federation Navy. The report, titled The Russian Navy: a Historic Transition, seemed to support what many commentators have been arguing since Russia's 2008 war with Georgia - that Russian naval modernisation is delivering a capability that could pose an increasing threat to the US Navy (USN) in key geographic regions. The report noted that the next decade or so would see "a modest number of new classes of ships and submarines" enter service, but with these platforms incorporating technology advances in several areas.
