The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has recently concluded first-of-class flight trials of the ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aboard its Adelaide-class frigates. Completion of the trials, designed to assess the operability of the long-endurance UAV on board the RAN's three FFG 7s, was confirmed by the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) on 1 September. The trials, conducted on board HMAS Newcastle off the east coast of Australia over 11 days in mid-June, followed two weeks of flights in March from the RAN's landing ship dock (LSD) vessel HMAS Choules.
