Defence contractor Lockheed Martin has established the Surface Navy Innovation Center (SNIC) at its Moorestown, New Jersey facility with the aim of developing, demonstrating, and ultimately transitioning new technology to the surface fleet. Lockheed Martin officials told reporters attending the SNIC's opening on 18 November that the centre is intended to help the company collaborate with industry partners and customers - including the US Navy (USN) - on solving problems that operators identify in their existing shipboard systems. Capital investment of USD 3.5 million in internal research and development (R&D) funds has gone into the centre.
