On 22 March 2013, the final Daring-class Type 45 destroyer, Duncan, entered service in the UK Royal Navy (RN). Symbolising the type of navy the UK Government requires to support national interests, Duncan and its five sister ships will deliver a package of capabilities and policy options as an integral part of what is almost an entirely new navy, consisting of Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, Astute-class submarines, Type 26 Global Combat Ship frigates, amphibious forces, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels. This new fleet, the RN said, will be an adaptable, agile, force which can shape and respond to 21st Century security challenges.
