UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has pitched for the Royal Navy (RN) to bring the second Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier into service after the country's next Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) in 2015. Speaking at a fringe event at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on 1 October, Hammond said it was his "inclination" to bring the ship into service to allow the RN to maintain one carrier continuously in operational use.
