The US Navy (USN) is restructuring the acquisition strategy of the restart for the DDG 51 Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyer programme, the service told Jane's on 13 May. To maintain competition between General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) shipyard and Huntington In-galls Industries (HII) yards, the service will structure the DDG 51 restart using a 'Profit Related to Offers' (PRO) strategy. Each yard will bid for the ships they were originally scheduled to build as part of an agreement reached in 2009 following the US Department of Defense (DoD) decision to restart the Arleigh Burke line.
