Thales has signed agreements with Converteam, Rolls-Royce and L-3 worth GBP235 million (USD413 million) to provide integrated electric propulsion and power systems for the UK's future aircraft carrier (CVF) programme. As a member of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA), Thales UK is leading the power and propulsion element of a programme that aims to deliver two 65,000-ton ships to the Royal Navy in 2014 and 2016. Under an innovative Power and Propulsion Sub-Alliance arrangement, announced on 6 October, Rolls-Royce has secured a GBP95 million contract to provide four 36 MW MT30 gas turbine sets (two per ship), shaft lines and propellers, steering gear, stabilisers and low-voltage electrical distribution system.
