Visualization of Ultrasonic Fields Transmitted from Bovine Bones by Hydrophone Scanning

摘要

An experimental study on the field disturbance of ultrasound transmitted through bones has been performed. Ultrasonic waves at 1.1 and 3.5 MHz were radiated towards bovine bone samples and the transmitted waves from the bones were detected by a small hydrophone. Two-dimensional images showing ultrasonic field distributions were constructed by scanning the hydrophone in a transverse plane of the ultrasonic beam. The ultrasonic fields were disturbed by a cortical bone both at 1.1 and 3.5 MHz. Disturbance by a cancellous bone was small at 1.1 MHz but large at 3.5 MHz. Large amounts of scattered waves were generated from a cancellous bone at 3.5 MHz. These results can be used for the determination of the dimensions of setups for in vivo and in vitro measurement of bone-transmitted ultrasound.
