The dependence of proton source size on proton energy, which was accelerated by the irradiation of ultrashort laser pulses on a 5-μm-thick copper tape target, was studied. Laser intensity was varied from 8.5 x 10~(17) to 6.6 x 10~(18)W/cm~2, and pulse duration from 55 to 400 fs. Source size decreases as proton energy increases under all laser conditions. When the dependence of source size on proton energy is fitted by power-law scaling, power-law exponent decreases from —0.7 to —1.3 as laser intensity increases from 8.5 x 10~(17) to 6.6 x 10~(18) W/cm~2.
