Non-linear vehicle—track interaction in consideration of vertical and lateral dynamics

The main goal is the investigation of the high frequency vehicle track interaction in view of non-linear corrugation growth. The ideal smooth surface of rail is disturbed by a so-called profile irregularity. Even small amplitudes of profile irregularity can lead to large fluctuations of contact forces in respect to the reference state or the average value, respectively. That is why it is necessary to use non-linear contact mechanics. The method presented here considers the non-linear shift of contact point and operates with a simplified, non-linear contact mechanics. The principal restrictions are, that all non-linarities are located in the contact point and by now only stationary tangential contact is treatable. The subsystems vehicle and track are described by linear models which are connected by nonlinear vertical, lateral and longitudinal contact forces. To determine the linear displacements of wheel and rail an ANALYTICAL TIME STEP INTEGRATION SCHEME is used. A NEWTON-METHOD is applied for an iterative adaption of the non-linear contact forces.
