Nature provides us with many beautiful and complex patterns, about which this book provides an accessible account of an elegant theory for representation and inference based on real-world observational data. Pattern Theory was initiated and mainly developed by one of the authors and collaborators over a half century. It provides a mathematical theory for representing and understanding complex real-world patterns, including both the structure and all the important variability, in order to mimic human vision and intelligence in pattern recognition and knowledge discovery.
