摘要

In her latest tour de force of social architectural history, Alice T. Friedman provides us with a lavishly illustrated, detailed portrait of midcentury modern architecture through the lens of "American glamour," her theory of the consumer-friendly design that evolved after World War II. Organized into five case studies of individual architects and their iconic postwar buildings, American Clamour examines, among other notable buildings, Philip Johnson's Class House, Richard Neutra's Kaufman Desert House, Eero Saarinen's General Motors Technical Center, the Miami Beach hotels of Morris Lapidus, and Beth Sholem Synagogue by Frank Lloyd Wright.
