During the International Astronautical Congress, Prague in 2010, the Head of Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) A. Perminov made the brief announcement in which he stated that the development of a space nuclear propulsion unit was being carried out in Russia and that this engine would in 5-10 years power a space flight to Mars with a duration of several months. This message drew a great interest of experts of various countries of the world.
