摘要

Heritage and conservation projects have many stigmas attached to them. There is a fear that costs will spiral uncontrollably, contractual issues or dispute may be regular, skilled tradespeople could be hard to find and unknown issues could add lengthy delays to the programme. This paperaims to explain how these things can be controlled or avoided on a large heritage project of major architectural significance. After presenting this particular building’s journey, the paper will suggest some best practice principles. It will also propose a few possible ways in whichthe industry can change to eliminate wasted time, effort and money. This will hopefully lead to more of these fantastic buildings being saved.
