摘要

Back in the 1970s, Harvard University (or, rather, Harvard College, the undergraduate part of the institution) had a curriculum they called "General Education." It forced Harvard students to take a certain number of courses in specifically designated areas - humanities, mathematics, science, languages, etc. in order to graduate. Its purpose seems to have been to ensure that Harvard produced what F. Scott Fitzgerald called "that narrowest of specialists, the well-rounded man."
