摘要

The life experiences of Chinese leaders, top political aides, and children of high Communist Party officials who experienced the anti-rightist campaigns of the 1950s and the Cultural Revolution continue to emerge in English-language autobiographies and in translations. Experiences of lowly Chinese professionals who lived the same history differently attract less attention. An exception is The Chinese Factor by Pamela Tan (Tan Pingmei). Tan's age, origins, profession, and political circumstances differentiate her contribution from idiosyncratic written and cinematic accounts by younger survivors of the Cultural Revolution and those whose parents were Mao's attendants and lieutenants.
