Optimum crucible martial for growth of Pr_2-xCe_xCuO_4 crystal

With the aim of finding an optimum crucible of growth of Pr_2-xCe_xCuO_4 crystal, reactions between CuO flux and various crucible materials were studied. Amogn six different crucible materials, Pt, Al_2O_3, ZrO_2, Y_2O_3, CeO_2 and MgO, Pt crucible was suitable or using Ce free solution. For Ce doped solution, MgO crucible was better than other materials. The reactant between Pt crucible and CuO flux was identified as Pt_2Cu. In the case of MgO crucible, Mg_2CuO_x and (MJg,Cu)O_x were produced as reactants. We found a method to restrain the reaction between the crucible and the solution. Using this method for growth of Cedoped crystal, we grew a crystal of size of 30- mm ×1.5 mm.
